The 1996 Olympic Games
Assignment:
The 1996 Olympic Games are nearing and you have just been
assigned
to write a Sunday package. Your editor wants a lead story that
previews
the games and a host of sidebars ranging in size. The planned
sidebars
include:
- Atlanta's preparation for the games -- new construction,
costs,
impact on city, etc.
- local athletes, coaches and trainers expected to take part
- a chart of local athletes expected to appear.
- the costs of attending the Olympics and tips on how to plan
your trip
- a list of related Web sites and links for the paper's own Web
site
The editor also mentioned an idea that may or may not merit a
story.
What impact is having
the Olympics in the U.S. having on amateur sports?
Are non-Olympic sports or athletes suffering when it comes to
fundraising or attention?
Are resources and sponsorships being drained from winter sports
in favor of the Summer Games?
Or will having the games here be a benefit?
The package is scheduled to run June 9
but because he wants a
fancy layout with complex graphics you'll be
expected to turn in most of your copy by May 30.
